  • I further speculated that Chūya’s ‘music’ in a couple of poems (“A Poem for Morning” and “This Moment of Passing”) was perhaps influenced by his having composed them as lyrics for the classical music group Suruya, which he befriended in late 1927. (…) Over the last few decades, many of Chūya’s poems have been set to music (including a fabulous disco track). Could Chūya have assumed more of his poems would be adopted as lyrics and could he have composed them accordingly? We can only wonder, but I feel that I previously overemphasized that possibility. The problem with my original assertion is that he composed “A Poem for Morning” and showed it to Kobayashi before even meeting Suruya. Also, through his friend, the literary and music scholar Kawakami Tetsutaro (1902-1980), Chūya apparently asked Suruya to set his poems to music. In short, Chūya’s brief relationship with Suruya and a misinterpretation of the title of his book could lead one to believe there was a stronger relationship between music and his poetry than what actually existed.

Chūya was a poet. Most evidence points to Chūya prioritizing poetic endeavor in his life; music was an afterthought.

  • Theory: Dazai's past

I was skimming through Fifteen, and I'm quite surprised that I don't see this part being brought up as often when talking about Dazai's past.

    image
    image

Dazai was invited to join the Sheep. What exactly does this mean? Did he spend a part of life living out on the streets or in Suribachi City?

    image

It is stated here how Dazai isn't an orphan, nor was he related to the Mafia. He isn't an illegitimate child either. So this clears up a few things and provides a little hint about his past.

    image

One thing we've seen about Dazai is that even as a young teen, he used to dress quite formally i.e. wearing a suit most of the time. (It's interesting how he used to dress formally even when he wasn't officially a member of the PM- like when he was present for the previous boss' assassination or when he was talking to Mori at the beginning of Fifteen)

This kind of plays into my theory about him being from a wealthy or a powerful family. While reading No Longer Human, it became very obvious to me how Dazai's personality is somewhat based on Yozo's. Yozo was from a relatively affluent family and had several siblings while being the youngest one of them all. I wouldn't be too surprised if Asagiri decides to write a similar past for Dazai.

If that's the case, then I also believe that Dazai may have ran away from his home. (Maybe due to facing similar circumstances as Yozo- like being neglected, abuse, etc). After running away, he ended up in Suribachi City and that is how he got invited to join the Sheep to which he declined. Eventually, he tried to commit suicide which resulted in him getting recruited into the PM by Mori, who had saved him from his suicide attempt.

One thing that stuck out to me while reading Stormbringer was how he used to live in a shipping container.

    image

"It was a land completely forgotten by everybody"

"not even marked on a map"

These lines, in particular, caught my attention. There could be several reasons as to why he chose to live in a place like that, but for the sake of the theory- it makes me think that perhaps he was hiding from someone. At this point, he was still a child, so could it be that he was hiding from his own family? It ties back into the theory of how he may have ran away, and this is how he hid from his family.

So... That was my incoherent little theory about Dazai's past that I came up with at 2 am.

I would really like to know about his past because despite having the most material to work with, he still remains one of the most mysterious characters in BSD. Hopefully, Asagiri writes about it one day. (Please let it be soon)

  • Hear me out….

    The flags…

But they’re all trying to raise a little girl.

((This idea is from an Rp I’m doing with one of my besties. I’d tag them but i only know their discord.))

IN THIS REALITY THEY ARE ALso ALL. ALIVE. AND WELL. AND IN THE MAIN SERIES. AND CHUUYA IS ALSO WITH THEM. BUT 22 BECAUSE THEY NEVER FUCKING DIED. ((I refuse to accept their death. They’re all executives now with chuuya. And they’re the best damn executives who ever breathed.))

Will their be art of this? Yes. But for now???

  • you gotta be able to say "die"

you gotta be able to say "suicide"

you gotta be able to talk about "sex"

they're uncomfortable topics, YEAH for SURE

because LIFE is uncomfortable. Death and suicide and sex and pain are straight up going to happen. not having words for the way it discomforts you doesn't make it more comfortable, it just makes you less able to reach out about it.

even more vital, you gotta be able to say words like "rape", "abuse", "queer" or "racist". cause we fought fucking hard to name those experiences. to identify "rape" as distinct from "sex" and "racism" as distinct from "acceptable behaviour" and "queer" as distinct from "invert"

like the function of communication is not to minimise immediate discomfort. we gotta be able to talk about stuff that's hard or sucks or causes difficult conversations.

  • my frustration with the bsd fandom is that their bias hatred towards mori causes them to be stubborn in not analyzing mori's character at all. yes, he has done bad shit, but 80% of the characters has as well. bsd is a morally gray world. they simplify him to "pedo sadist that fiddles children" like just wtf. the sa dazai headcanon and theories spread around and shown in the fics are just so disgusting and triggering. you're taking such an intersting, mysterious, and well written character and painting him as the source of every problem in the BSD universe (basically making him a scapegoat). it's illogical and stupid. you're allowed to dislike characters, just appreciate how well written they are and don't simplify them down/mischaracterize them due to your contempt towards them.

  • THATS what franz kafka fucking looked like??????

  • Having just finished reading 55 minutes, I have to wonder if H.G. Wells is going to make an appearance at some point or another in this arc. You know. Since her whole thing is showing up to stop world ending events? I don’t know how it would play out since her ability only allows people to go back once and Atsushi and Akutagawa have both already been sent back but. If there were any time to introduce her character to the main manga it would be now since all of the most decisive stuff in this arc has happened over the course of less than 30 minutes. (The deaths, the one order, Dazai, etc)

I think perhaps Aya could be a good candidate for Well’s ability.
